Sheboygan County Health Department reports first coronavirus death in the county

Sheboygan, WI — Sheboygan County Health and Human Services is reporting the county’s first death related to coronavirus. The deceased was a resident at the Sunny Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Besides the deceased, there are three additional confirmed cases of coronavirus related to Sunny Ridge. Two of the cases are residents of Sunny Ridge and one is an employee. The confirmed active cases have been placed into isolation and are being closely monitored. Sheboygan County Division of Public Health is partnering with Sunny Ridge to implement the CDC guidelines and best practice for infection control standards.

To prevent the spread of illness, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health is conducting a contact investigation to identify and follow-up with people who had close contact with either of these cases. Close contacts will be notified and monitored by Public Health for daily symptoms and temperature checks. Public Health staff may also provide quarantine instructions. Sunny Ridge staff that begin to show symptoms will be isolated at home.

Sunny Ridge is working with local governing officials and their facility medical director to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and staff. The facility has implemented many processes to limit exposure to the virus and continues to do all that they can to ensure the safety of all residents and staff.

Currently, there are 15 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Sheboygan County, according to the health department. Besides today’s death, Seven of the cases are considered active, and the seven remaining cases have recovered. There have been 166 negative tests reported in Sheboygan County.
